Business postChina Moves to Tighten Controls on Advanced AI Technology Exports
China has proposed adding dozens of advanced technologies to its export-control framework, including a large group of AI-related technologies. The proposal covers 40 technologies in total, with 23 linked to artificial intelligence, alongside selected semiconductor, biotechnology and solar technologies. The move is being framed around national-security concerns and tighter control over sensitive technology transfers. For Saudi Arabia and other Gulf markets investing heavily in AI, data centers and digital infrastructure, the development is important because future access to certain Chinese AI technologies may increasingly depend on licensing and export-control requirements. Chinese technology companies are still expected to be able to offer many services internationally, but advanced models and sensitive deployments could face additional regulatory review. For IT-security companies, system integrators and infrastructure buyers in Saudi Arabia, this adds another layer to supplier selection: technical capability, cybersecurity and compliance may become just as important as price and availability.
